Inside AWSP

Advocacy Advisory Council

2018-19 Advocacy Committee group photo

The Advocacy Advisory Council serves as both liaison and resource to the AWSP Board on legislative matters. Members communicate with principals around the state on issues of concern, monitor legislative action and assist with testimony as appropriate. Advisory Council members also identify and prioritize the association’s yearly Legislative Platform (PDF) for approval by the AWSP Board.

Providing a strong, proactive voice for principals in Olympia and Washington, D.C. is central to AWSP and is one of the seven key goals in the AWSP Strategic Plan.

The 35-member Advisory Council primarily includes practicing principals from each grade level within each of the state’s 10 congressional districts. The council meets in person twice each year and holds weekly conference calls during the Legislative Session.
